4 Signs You Need Water Heater Repair
Traditional hot water heaters look simple from the outside. They appear to be nothing more than a large drum with a few pipes running to it, but inside they consist of many parts that work together to warm up water for your daily activities. Water heaters may be electric or gas, which makes working on them fairly dangerous if you are not a professional. If you experience any of the following symptoms of hot water heater trouble, then be sure to contact an experienced local plumber.
Most water heaters can quickly warm water up to a temperature between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If your home's hot water heater can't do this, there may be a problem with the heater receiving gas or electricity (depending on the type) or internal parts may be failing. This is often a sign that water heater replacement is needed.
Noisy Water Heater
Hot water heaters that bang and clank are going to almost always need repair, and in some circumstances, strange noises are a sign that it will need to be replaced. The sounds are often caused by your water heater's heating element burning off built up sediment, a common sign of old age and imminent demise.
Water Heater Leak
The biggest problem you're likely to run into with your water heater is a water leak. If you find standing water or notice a drip or stream of water coming from the unit, then you're definitely in for a repair. If the tank itself has ruptured, it probably can't be repaired, which means it is probably time to consider a replacement.
Old Water Heater
As with most things, water heaters do have a lifespan. Most water heaters will last between 8 to 12 years. If your tank is near that mark it may be time to consider replacing your hot water heater before problems arise.
